Limited Edition 1st Armored Division Brooch

This brooch bears a 1st Armored Division insignia centerpiece.

1st Armored Division

The 1st Armored Division is a combined arms division of the United States Army. The division is part of III Corps and is headquartered in Fort Bliss in Texas. It is the oldest armor division in the U.S. Army, and it was the first armored division of the U.S. Army to see battle in World War II. The division was nicknamed "Old Ironsides", by its first commander, Major General Bruce R. Magruder, after he saw a picture of the frigate USS Constitution, which is also nicknamed "Old Ironsides".

Unit Insignia

The 1st Armored Division unit insignia is a triangle divided into three sections, yellow, blue, and red, which are the colors of the branches from which armored units were originally formed. The tank tread, gun, and lightning flash are symbolic of mobility, power, and speed. The "1" on the insignia is the Division's designation. The inscription "OLD IRONSIDES" is the Division's nickname.
