USMA (West Point) Insignia Details

The Kicking Mule is a West Point/Army symbol and mascot, but it should not automatically be described as a USMA insignia unless the specific physical piece is actually an insignia.

I also want to correct something from my previous answer: I was too definitive when I said the mule was adopted specifically because of its historical use for Army transportation. That is part of the broader symbolism, but I don't have a sufficiently authoritative West Point source yet to establish the exact origin story of the Kicking Mule mark.
