Unit Insignia Details
The insignia of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment is a black disc edged in yellow, centered by a yellow octagon with concave sides and a green scalloped circle bearing a white fleur-de-lis. Beneath it flows a green scroll inscribed “Toujours Prêt” in gold. The yellow octagon recalls the eight-pointed star of the original Dragoons, while the green palmetto leaf honors the Regiment’s first campaign in Florida. The fleur-de-lis marks its valorous service in France during both World Wars. Together, these symbols embody the enduring readiness and proud heritage of the 2nd Dragoons.
Unit History
The 2nd Cavalry Regiment, proudly known as the “2nd Dragoons,” is the oldest continuously serving cavalry regiment in the United States Army. Established in 1836, it first rode into battle in the Florida swamps during the Seminole Wars and has since fought with honor on battlefields across the globe. Now based at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany, this storied regiment carries forward nearly two centuries of distinguished service, living its motto “Toujours Prêt” — Always Ready.
