Blue Star Service Flag Brooch

This brooch features a repurposed World War II 1 Blue Star Service Flag sweetheart pin as a centerpiece on a vintage brooch. Due to the vintage nature of both the centerpiece and brooch, please expect some evidence of it being loved and worn. 

The Service Flag is an official banner authorized by the Department of Defense for display by families who have members serving in the Armed Forces during any period of war or hostilities. Each blue star represents a service member currently serving. 

 


What is Sweetheart Jewelry?

Sweetheart jewelry was a token of affection from a service member originally given to their sweetheart. This tradition started during World War I, but became increasingly more popular during the World War II era (1939-1945), as cloth was being rationed as part of the war effort. As a result, clothing was unadorned and simple.
