Unit Insignia Details

The insignia of the 101st Airborne Division is a black shield bearing the white head of a bald eagle, its fierce gaze turned to the right. Above it arches a black tab inscribed “AIRBORNE” in gold. The eagle recalls Old Abe, the proud war eagle of Wisconsin’s 8th Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, symbolizing the valor and fighting spirit that define the Screaming Eagles.

Unit History

The 101st Airborne Division, proudly known as the “Screaming Eagles,” is the U.S. Army’s only air assault division and one of its most celebrated units. Born in World War II, its paratroopers carved their legend in the skies over Normandy, the forests of Bastogne, and the battlefields beyond. Headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the 101st continues to lead with speed, precision, and audacity, living its storied motto: “Rendezvous With Destiny.”
