    The U.S. Army Civil Affairs branch insignia features a gold globe behind a torch of liberty, crossed sword, and scroll—all symbolizing the global scope, enlightened duty, and civil-military mission of the branch. Originally approved in 1956 and redesignated as Civil Affairs in 1959, the insignia was authorized for wear by Regular Army Civil Affairs units in 1961.
