Insignia Details

The U.S. Army Infantry branch insignia features two gold crossed muskets, modeled after the 1795 Springfield Arsenal musket, standing 3/4 inch in height. Crossed muskets were first introduced in 1875 to represent the valor and duty of Infantry officers and enlisted Soldiers. In 1924, the insignia was standardized to honor the historic Springfield musket—the first official U.S. shoulder arm with interchangeable parts—symbolizing the Infantry’s enduring tradition of readiness, precision, and steadfast service. While minor adjustments in size have occurred over the years, the emblem’s design has remained unchanged, reflecting a proud legacy that continues to this day.
