Special Forces Insignia

The Special Forces Crest is a distinctive unit insignia that combines the crossed arrow collar insignia, which is the Special Forces branch insignia with the fighting knife which is of a distinctive shape and pattern only issued to the First Special Service Force. The crossed arrows were originally worn by the First Special Force created during World War II. The motto on the crest, 'De Oppresso Liber' is Latin for "From Oppression We Will Liberate Them."

The crest is authorized to be worn by personnel of the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and their subordinate units not authorized a distinctive unit insignia in their own right.
