Insignia Details

The United States Military Academy crest proudly bears the Academy’s revered motto: “Duty, Honor, Country.” At its heart rests a sword, timeless symbol of war and military service, crossed with the helmet of Pallas Athena—goddess of wisdom and the art of battle—signifying the union of knowledge, strength, and leadership. The devices rest upon a shield emblazoned with the arms of the United States, crowned by the national emblem of the bald eagle. In its talons, the eagle clutches thirteen arrows, for the original states, and branches of oak and olive, enduring symbols of strength, peace, and the eternal balance of war and diplomacy. Together, these elements proclaim the noble mission and enduring spirit of West Point.
